Ditch Annualized Thinking Now!
Let’s talk about the best way for you to achieve your goals for 2022.
“It’s not what you know; it’s not even who you know; it’s what you implement that counts.”
The best way for you to achieve your goals in 2022 isn’t by working harder.
The best way for you to achieve your goals in 2022 is by focusing on the high-value activities, and only those activities, that matter most to your progress and success, maintaining a sense of urgency to get those things done, and getting rid of the low-value activities that keep you stuck where you are.
The trap that 99% of you fall into is the belief that your success or failure is determined by what you achieve over the course of a year.
It’s called annualized thinking, and it’s how most individuals and companies set their goals and plan to achieve them.
The problem with annualized thinking is that it causes everyone thinking that way to believe you’ve got plenty of time to make things happen.
Just think about that in the context of right now. I’m writing this post on January 2nd, 2022, and as you’re reading it and thinking about the goals you’ve set for yourself, you’re thinking about all of the time you have ahead of you to achieve your goals.
That’s a trap because it creates the false belief that you have lots of time. And when you believe you have lots of time to achieve something, what do you tend to do?
Procrastinate!
Because you lack a sense of urgency.
And it’s a sense of urgency that moves us to take action right now.
But right now, you’re thinking about your annual goal or goals, and you’re actually thinking, “I’ve got lots of time. December is a long way off.”
There’s the trap.
Because, in the end, effective execution of any plan or strategy happens daily and weekly, not monthly and quarterly.
Daily and weekly is where it’s at.
Daily and weekly execution of the activities that are going to help you achieve your goals.
With that said, you need to throw out the annual goal-setting and you must start thinking of achieving goals within a shortened time frame.
So, the question is, how long should that time frame be?
That’s what we’re going to learn in my next post.
In the meantime, remember what Thomas Edison said: “If we did the things we’re capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”
I want you to astound yourself in 2022.
And that’s why we’re going to ditch annualized thinking when it comes to achieving our goals.
We’re going to focus on a much shorter time frame for setting and achieving our goals, all with a healthy sense of urgency that will cause us to effectively execute our plan daily and weekly instead of monthly and quarterly.
